Free Fun

One of the things I enjoy about Oahu is that there is no shortage of things to do at any given time.  I can't imagine ever getting bored here.  One of the things I do not enjoy about Oahu is the ridiculously high cost of living.  So it's a good thing there are so many free things to do.  Aside from hiking and the beach, there are family events all summer.

We saw the Marine Corps band in an outdoor concert earlier this month and neglected to take any pictures.  In addition, here is our trip to the Aikahi Playground.

This lovely park was built with community funds.  X is becoming quite a playground aficionado.  He can now scale a twisty slide all by himself.

Last Saturday, we went to Foster Botanical Gardens for their free evening event and tried laulau for the first time.  Laulau is fantastic, in case you were wondering.  X loved it.
What a huge tree!

At nightfall, they lit the gardens up

And since it's been such a long time since I posted, here are pictures from the fourth of July at our current favorite beach, Kokololio.

And our local playground with the lovely Ko'olau mountains in the background.

People often ask me if I miss Korea.  The true answer is yes.  Korea tugs at my heart sometimes.  We miss our friends, and the wonderful times we had there.  We miss all the money we had when we lived rent free.  But we're happy to be in this beautiful place.  Take a look at our Fourth of July picture again and compare it to our last two Fourth of Julys.

Learning to lie

It's so interesting watching this little person start at nothing and learn everything we take for granted.  Today, X told his first lie.  He made a very familiar face, and when I asked him if he pooped he said, "nonononono."  When he says, "no," it's always repeated multiple times and accompanied by a vigorous head shaking.  Five minutes later, I noticed an unmistakable smell.  I suppose it was the first of many lies he will tell me over the years.  He does hate having his diaper changed.
